Quick answer
Konjic from Mostar in one day: ARK D-0 bunker, Old Bridge, Neretva rafting, peka lunch. Schedule, costs, transport options.
Konjic is the small mountain town 60 km north of Mostar that punches above its weight. It has Yugoslavia’s secret Cold War nuclear bunker, an Ottoman bridge older than Mostar’s, the Neretva river for rafting, and a UNESCO-listed woodcarving tradition. All within a tight 90-minute radius for a day trip.
This guide covers what to do, how to get there, and how to plan the day.
Why Konjic from Mostar
It’s the easiest serious day trip from Mostar that’s not obvious. Most travelers do south-of-Mostar (Kravica + Pocitelj + Blagaj). Konjic is the alternative northern direction — same time investment, completely different experience. Perfect if you have 4–5 days in Mostar and want variety.

What to see and do
1. ARK D-0 (Tito’s Nuclear Bunker)
The headline attraction. Yugoslavia’s secret Cold War bunker, built 1953–1979, declassified 2011. 6,500 sqm of underground concrete designed to keep Tito and 350 government staff alive for 6 months in nuclear war.
- Entry: €15 per person (with our tour)
- Tour duration: 2 hours
- Hours: Tue–Sun 9:00–16:00 (closed Mondays)
- Booking: essential, 24–48h ahead
- What you see: anti-blast doors, decontamination chambers, Marshal’s office, art biennial installations, NBC filtration systems
The bunker also doubles as a contemporary art biennial (Bosnia–Herzegovina Biennial of Contemporary Art), with works integrated into the original Cold War spaces. Unique combination.
See our Tito’s Bunker tour from Mostar (€65 per person) for the standard half-day visit.
2. Konjic Old Bridge (Stara Ćuprija)
The 1682 Ottoman stone bridge over the Neretva — a smaller, earlier predecessor to Mostar’s Stari Most. Damaged in WWII, partially rebuilt. The setting (mountains rising on both sides) is more dramatic than Mostar’s, even if the bridge itself is shorter. Free, always accessible.
3. Neretva rafting
Europe’s coldest commercially-rafted river (12–14°C even in August). Half-day trips run May–October. Grade II–III rapids — beginner-friendly with two grade III sections. €40–80 per person depending on operator.
The full-day combination is our Tito’s Bunker & Rafting Combo — €145 per person, hotel pickup, both activities, lunch included.
4. Konjic woodcarving tradition
The town is famous for carved wooden objects — coffee tables, chess sets, mosque furniture. The skill is on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Family workshops welcome visitors. The Mulić family workshop is the most-visited. Free to enter; pieces from €30.
5. Konjic Old Town walk
Small, charming, walkable in 30 minutes. Cafés along the river, traditional Bosnian houses, a 16th-century mosque. Best as a 30-minute stop combined with the Old Bridge.
6. Boračko Lake (40 min east of Konjic)
Bosnia’s smallest mountain lake — emerald green, 380 metres altitude, surrounded by forest. Swimming, kayak rental, hiking trails. Less famous than Jablanica Lake but much smaller and quieter.
