Quick answer

Half-day self-guided kayak safari through the Neretva Canyon, from Lake Grabovica to Diva Grabovica beach. Activity is €35 / person, run from Jablanica (40 min north of Mostar). Get there by self-drive (free parking), Mostar↔Sarajevo bus (€5 each way), or our optional private transfer with hotel pickup (€100 / vehicle for 1–4 guests, €250 / vehicle for 5–8). Gear, life jackets and beach picnic spot included. April–October. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Confirmation in 60 seconds.

What you'll experience

Three hours of paddling, five hours total — Bosnia's most photogenic canyon.

Three hours on the water, but only one kind of place can hold you for it.

The Neretva Canyon between Jablanica and Konjic is a 30 km stretch of jade-green river bordered by limestone walls that rise 1,500 m on both sides. Prenj on the right, Čvrsnica on the left. You don’t see this canyon from the road — the highway runs above it, hidden behind a ridge. The only way in is the water.

We launch from Lake Grabovica, a small dam-formed lake that flattens the Neretva long enough for first-time paddlers to handle it without stress. Your kayak is a three-seater (two adults plus a child seat for kids 1–8), with luxury padded seats, a waterproof bag for your phone, and a life jacket. You paddle yourself — there’s no guide on the water — but the route is impossible to lose. Head north into the canyon. Stop when the cliffs squeeze together at Diva Grabovica beach. Swim, jump from the rocks where Red Bull cliff divers practice, sunbathe on the sand, then paddle back.

The whole tour from Mostar pickup to Mostar drop-off is about 5 hours, of which roughly 3 are on the water. If you want to stay longer at the beach, you can — the kayak is yours all day, and the return time is flexible.

Lamb is the local meal in Jablanica — there are three or four roadside restaurants where it’s slow-cooked under a metal bell. Restaurant Kovacevic, right at our launch point, is one of them. Most guests eat there before or after the paddle.

Itinerary

What you'll experience

Get to Jablanica

Three ways to reach the launch point

Self-drive (40 min from Mostar, free parking next to Restaurant Kovacevic), Mostar↔Sarajevo intercity bus (€5, ask the driver to drop you at Kovacevic), or book our private round-trip transfer with hotel pickup (€100 vehicle 1–4 guests / €250 vehicle 5–8 guests). The activity itself starts at 10:00 at Lake Grabovica.

09:50

Briefing & gear up

Three-seater kayaks (2 adults + child seat), life jackets, paddles, waterproof bag for your phone. Quick safety brief — the route is calm flatwater, suitable for absolute beginners.

10:00

Paddle into the Neretva Canyon

Launch onto Lake Grabovica and head north. Limestone cliffs of Prenj rise 1,500 m on the right, Čvrsnica on the left. The water is jade-green, ice-cold, drinkable straight from the river. Roughly 1.5 hours of easy paddling.

11:30

Diva Grabovica beach — swim, picnic, cliff jump

Pull up at the sandy beach in the Diva Grabovica bay. Two hours of free time: swim, sunbathe, jump from the rocks where Red Bull cliff divers practice. Bring your own picnic or grill at the beach barbecue spot.

13:30

Return paddle (or boat tow)

Paddle back to base — same route, downstream so easier. Or hook your kayak to our motorboat and let it tow you back (€5 / kayak, summer only). Roughly 1–1.5h either way.

14:30

Wrap-up at Lake Grabovica

Dry off, change, return your gear. If you booked our transfer, the van is waiting and drops you back at your Mostar hotel by 15:30. If you self-drove or took the bus, you're free to head back at your own pace — the bus stop is at Restaurant Kovacevic.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Do I need kayak experience?

No. Lake Grabovica is calm flatwater (the dam slows the river), so the route is suitable for first-time paddlers. The kayak is self-guided — no instructor on the water — but the route is impossible to lose: paddle north into the canyon, beach yourself at Diva Grabovica, paddle back. We brief you for 10 minutes before launch.

What's the minimum age?

Kayaks seat 2 adults + 1 child seat (suitable for ages 1–8). Children under 8 ride in the centre child seat with a junior life jacket included. From age 8–13 they can paddle themselves at €15 / child. Above 14, full adult rate. Maximum kayak load: 220 kg.

How cold is the water?

Cold — 12–14 °C even in August. The river is fed by underground springs from the surrounding karst mountains. Most people swim for 5–10 minutes at Diva Grabovica beach, then sunbathe to warm up. The paddling itself is dry — life jackets and a waterproof bag for your phone are included.

What should I bring?

Swimsuit (worn under shorts), quick-dry t-shirt, towel, sunscreen, hat, water shoes or old sneakers (the launch is rocky), and cash if you want to eat at Restaurant Kovacevic before or after the paddle. We provide everything else. Cash for the optional motorboat tow if you want to skip the return paddle.

What if I want to stay longer at the beach?

You can. The kayak is yours all day — return to Mostar departure is flexible. Just message the driver. Most groups do 5h total; some do 7–8h with a long beach lunch.

When does this run?

April through late October. Outside that window the water is too cold and the wind makes the canyon unsafe. Bookings confirmed up to 24h before; bad weather (heavy rain, lightning storm) = automatic 100% refund or free reschedule.

How do I get to Jablanica?

Three options. (1) Self-drive — 40 min north of Mostar on the M-17, free parking next to Restaurant Kovacevic. (2) Mostar↔Sarajevo intercity bus, €5 each way, drops you at Kovacevic, runs roughly hourly. (3) Our private round-trip transfer with hotel pickup — €100 / vehicle for 1–4 guests, €250 / vehicle for 5–8 guests, includes wait time at the launch and drop-off back at your hotel. Pick whichever suits your group; the activity itself starts in Jablanica.

Do you offer pickup from Sarajevo, Konjic, or other cities?

Yes — we can arrange custom transfers from Sarajevo, Konjic, Dubrovnik, or Split. Message us with your start point and group size for a quote. The default tour assumes you arrive in Jablanica on your own, but we'll get you there from anywhere if you prefer.
