Quick answer
Mini rafting on the Neretva — a gentler 2-hour trip for families and beginners. Suitable for kids 6+. Operators, prices, what to expect.
If full Neretva rafting sounds too much for kids, beginners, or anyone with hesitation about cold water and rapids, mini rafting is the alternative. Same river, same scenery, same operators — but a gentler 2-hour ride on the calmest section, accepting kids from age 6.
This guide covers what mini rafting is, who it’s for, and how to book.

The Neretva river
The Neretva is rated by paddling guides as Europe’s coldest commercially-rafted river — 12–14°C even in August because it comes from glacier-fed karst springs. The water is so clear you see the riverbed in 4-metre depths.
The full rafting stretch is 24 km of grade II–III rapids — beginner-friendly but with two genuinely heart-rate-elevating rapid sections. Mini rafting uses only the gentler upstream 6–8 km, before the rapids start. Perfect calm flow, beautiful canyon, no surprises.
What you actually do
1. Meet at Konjic
Arrive at the rafting base camp 1 km outside Konjic town, 9 AM or 13:00 starts.
2. Suit up
Provided gear:
- Wetsuit (required, water is cold)
- Helmet
- Life jacket (sized for adults, kids, even toddlers)
- Neoprene shoes (good ones)
3. Safety briefing (15 min)
Guide explains paddling commands, what to do if you fall out (you probably won’t on mini), basic raft commands. Translated into English on most international tours.
4. Transfer to put-in
10-minute van ride from base camp to the river launch point.
5. On the water (2 hours)
Calm flowing water with occasional grade II ripples for fun. The guide rides in each raft and steers from the back. You paddle in synchronized commands. Stops for swimming (if you want), photos, and a riverside snack break.
6. Take-out and return
The raft drifts to the take-out point near base camp. Hot showers, change room, lunch.
Who mini rafting is for
Perfect for
- Families with kids 6–10 — proper kid-sized gear, zero serious rapids
- Anyone over 60 who’s mobile but doesn’t want hours on the water
- Travelers nervous about whitewater — this is essentially flat water with mild ripples
- First-time rafters — see if you like it before booking the full trip
- Couples on shorter holidays — fits in a half-day with bunker tour
Not ideal for
- Adventure-seeking adults — too gentle, you’ll feel cheated
- Pregnant women — even gentle rafting carries some impact risk
- Non-swimmers with serious water fear — you’re still in cold water, just calm
When to go
Best months
- June–July — water still cold but air warm (28–32°C), pleasant
- August–September — peak season, all operators running, water lower (smaller ripples)
Watch out
- May — water highest, fastest, mini route still calm but cold
- October — last week, many operators close after Oct 15
- November–April — closed season
Operators
Several operators run mini rafting from Konjic. The market leaders:
- Centar za Rafting — established 2002, English-speaking guides, 4-person rafts standard
- Highlander Rafting — boutique, smaller groups, slightly more expensive
- Peregrin Rafting — biggest operator, runs both mini and full trips
All share the same river permits and base camps. Quality differences are mostly about guide attitude and group size, not safety (all are licensed).
